Blockchains and Healthcare
In the U.S., EHRs have to be in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations making the handling and transferring of health data a security risk. HIPAA regulations require that entities implement safeguards that protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of EHRs of pa tients. Blockchains use cryptographic technologies to ensure confidentiality even on a public blockchain. Integrity of data is kept through chronological hashes on an immutable ledger, which also allows for the availability of information.
