The headword as transmitted here, first attested in this -nn- version in some mss of Appian, Syriaca 346 Gabba (web address 1), is a post-classical spelling of the present middle participle, masculine nominative singular, of the verb ti/numai (I punish, chastise, take vengeance); cf. tau 643 and see generally LSJ s.v. However, Theodoridis for Photius, Lexicon tau314, adopts the spelling tinu/menos from Naber. See further, next note

(Hesychius tau927 analogously glosses the neuter form of the headword s.v. tinnu/menon; cf. ps.-Herodian, Partitiones 132.11.) This is probably correct, though note that P. von der Muehll's edition of the Odyssey (on the TLG) spells the headword in that passage teinu/menos.
