The headword, here in the genitive plural, is capable of referring to a wide range of things that are either literally or figuratively "standing", and in the context of buildings it is often difficult to tell whether the term is referring to doorposts or to other parts of the building that stand (such as pillars) or, synecdochally, to the building itself. Unambiguous cases where this form of the word is used in this sense include Exodus 12:7 (as above) and 12:23 LXX; also Eumelus fr. 12.2 Bernabé. A more common focus of commentary (for the Suda at least) is Aristophanes, who uses this form at Acharnians 449, where the connotation 'building' is more probable. But scholia to other passages where the word occurs in different cases and numbers offer similar glosses, or include a similar gloss to illustrate different/alternative meanings of the words; eg. scholia to Homer, Iliad 2.470, 14.167, Odyssey 1.333, 4.838, 7.89; and to Euripides, Orestes 1449.
