Translation: A proper name.
Greek Original:*strombixi/dhs: o)/noma ku/rion.
Notes:
Abridged from Harpokration s.v., where one sees that this is a man mentioned in a lost speech by
Lysias (fr. 67 Sauppe, now 75 Carey OCT).
With such an unusual name, he is sure to be Strombichides Diotimou of the deme Euonymon, an Athenian who served on the board of generals for several years in the later stages of the Peloponnesian War: see e.g.
Thucydides 8.16 and passim; Davies 161. A victim of the Thirty Tyrants in 404/3 (
Lysias 13.13, 30.14).
