A man selling garlands.
*stefanopw/lhs: o( tou\s stefa/nous pwlw=n.
This masculine noun is not much attested outside lexica and grammars (e.g.
Pollux 7.199): see LSJ s.v. Garland-selling was more usually women's work. (An individual instance was perhaps the statuesque Phye, in
Herodotus's story of Peisistratos' attempted coup in
Athens [1.60]; Hdt. himself seems to have believed she was Athenian, but the Aristotelian
Athenaion Politeia [14.4] reports a rival tradition that she was 'a Thracian garland-seller'.)
