[1] =
Synagoge sigma 216,
Photius sigma535 Theodoridis, which share the curious gloss
pikroi=s ('bitter') with Suda ms F, a meaning which is otherwise unattested for this headword. Mss GVM offer the variant
puknoi=s ('thick'), which Theodoridis declares correct and would certainly make better sense. Headword and glosses are dative plural, masculine or neuter. The only literary attestation for this form of the headword prior to the Suda is in
Thucydides 7.36.3, the preceding passage to which has just been quoted in the previous entry (
sigma 1050). In the
Thucydides passage the headword occurs in hendiadys with another adjective
pa/xesi ['stout'], which may provide another option for a variant reading for the current
pikroi=s.
[2] Quotation (transmitted, in Adler's view, via the
Excerpta of Constantine Porphyrogenitus) unidentifiable.
[3] On this verb, see under
sigma 1049.
[4] cf. ps-
Zonaras 1672.22, where this supplementary headword is defined as "she who has a small robe and garment." The word is otherwise unattested.
