The headword is accusative plural of the noun paiw/n, which can refer to hymnic paeans, to the healing god Paean and, poetically, to his human counterparts, the physicians (hence the first gloss). Here it has evidently been extracted from somewhere -- perhaps Plato, Symposium 179A, where the scholia have similar material.
