An epic/poetic third person plural, aorist middle optative, of pei/qw. It occurs in Homer, Iliad 10.57, from where it is probably extracted here; but see also Semonides fr. 1.22 (preserved in Stobaeus). The form is used by the Empress Eudocia (5th c.) in her Homerocentones, and later mentioned in the Etymologicum Magnum (Kallierges 258.53).
