The primary headword (unglossed) and the secondary one are both from the adjective pamplhqh/s (see pi 135), the latter being the neuter singular form, which can be used adverbially and is more frequently oxytone in accent.
The earliest attestation of the primary headword is also the most notable and commented-on (and has surely generated the present entry): Gospel of Luke 23.18 (of the people's clamour for the release of Barabbas rather than Christ); cf. ps.-Herodian 255. Adler also cites Lexicon Ambrosianum 352.
