[2] Marcus Aurelius, Meditations 1.7.7. The quotation contains perilalou=si, which is a present active participle, dative plural masculine/neuter, of perilale/w. The headword could be the same form, although it has a nu-moveable at the end (perilalou=sin) that the participle in the quotation lacks. The headword could also be the homographic present indicative active, third person plural ("they babble a lot"), and the two glosses offered display similar morphological ambiguity. The only other attestation of the headword as such (with the nu-moveable) is Theophylact Simocatta, Histories 3.14.3, where it performs as a verb rather than a participle. In neither that case nor in the case of the participle in the quotation of Marcus Aurelius is the use of the verb transitive, as seems required by the grammatical comment at the beginning of the entry. Other forms of the verb, however, are frequently attested with an accusative object.
