Headword: *peridra/ttesqai
Adler number: pi,1104
Translated headword: to grasp
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] to comprehend.[1]
Also [sc. attested is] peridra/ssw [?"I grab"]; [used] with a genitive.[2]
Greek Original:
*peridra/ttesqai: perie/xesqai. kai\ *peridra/ssw: genikh=|.
Notes:
[1] = Synagoge; Photius, Lexicon pi660 Theodoridis. The headword is the Attic dialect version of the present middle infinitive of peridra/ssomai. Theodoridis regards it as quoted from either Cyril of Alexandria (Commentary on John 3.4: PG 73.449d) or Gregory of Nazianzus (Poems 1.2.2.253: PG 37.598a).
[2] This seems to be an otherwise unattested present indicative active, first person singular, of peridra/ssomai. (No other active forms of this verb are attested.) The middle voice too can take the genitive: see LSJ s.v.
