Translated headword: implants
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning he/she/it] plants, approaches.
Greek Original:
*futali/zei: futeu/ei, plhsia/zei.
Notes:
Same entry in Photius, Lexicon phi357 Theodoridis. The headword is present active indicative, third person singular, of a verb (futali/zw) attested only in lexicography and grammars; cf. Hesychius phi1064, Etymologicum Magnum 803.8-9.
The headword and the first gloss are obviously related (as noted in Et.Mag. and elsewhere), but the pertinence of the second gloss is more obscure. The solution may lie in the fact that plhsia/zw can serve as a euphemism for 'have sexual intercourse with'; see LSJ s.v.
Keywords: agriculture; botany; definition; dialects, grammar, and etymology; gender and sexuality; imagery
