[1] The headword verb is attested only here. Adler reports that mss GM put it after
phi 744, as alphabetical order would require; also that ms V reads
frwtei=n. But
Hesychius (phi1081) and other lexica have
fw/gein as a headword, glossed with
fru/gein "to parch, to roast."
David Ruhnken (1723-1798) suggested reading
fw/gein as the headword here, and
fru/ttein (a later variant of
fru/gein) as the gloss; Bernhardy would make the gloss either
fru/ttein or
