C4 BCE; Kassel-Austin, PCG 7.353-355.
Athenaeus mentions no play of this name, and his other possible allusions to
Philippus are problematic: see e.g. 8.358F [8.57 Kaibel] (where the reading
Ephippus [
epsilon 3929] is preferred) and 13.568F [13.24 Kaibel] (where 'Philippou' may be 'Philippidou' [
phi 345]). Another suggested candidate for the passage which the Suda has in mind is 10.437D [10.49 Kaibel], but it too presents problems: the phrase used there is 'as Euboulides the dialectician says in a play [called]
Komastai', its attribution to
Philippus (by Kaibel) entirely conjectural.
