[Meaning a] Persian wrapping.
*fiblatw/rion: peribo/laion *persiko/n.
Entry lacking, Adler reports, in mss AFV (but added in the margin of A).
Attestations of this headword are late and rare. Other than here in the Suda it is found once each in Constantinus VII Porphyrogenitus (10th c.; cf.
De administrando imperio 53, in the form
fiblatou/rion) and earlier in Philogelos (?4th c.). It can be connected with the word
fi/bla (Latin
fibula; see
pi 2091) denoting a brooch or pin used in clothing; cf.
Hesychius pi3052; phi435. The related verbs
e)kfiblo/w,
sumfiblo/w are also attested (see
epsilon 595,
pi 2091;
Hesychius sigma2329).
For the glossing noun -- often, though not necessarily, signifying an item of clothing -- cf.
alpha 2860,
delta 1290,
kappa 2398,
xi 167.
