For they used to call the barley-groats ou)lai/ in contrast to the barley-cakes, which were barley ground[1] by the mill; for formerly they used to bend[2] the barley-groats when eating them, the processing of them having not yet been discovered. And up to the present time those who sacrifice pour barley-groats on the libations, since [they are] a symbol of the ancient food; but the round cakes of the recent era, that is of the subsequent [one].
