[It is on record][1] that after he had defeated the Philistines, David, having gathered together all those in their prime, arrives at the ark of the covenant, which was lying in Kariathama;[2] and when they had carried it out of the house of Aminadab[3] and had placed it upon a new wagon, they gave both his brothers and his sons the task of dragging it after the ox.[4] And the king advanced and the crowd with him, praising God and singing every kind of native song, with a varied multitude of notes and of dances and of songs, while they were leading the ark of the covenant down into Jerusalem. When they arrived as far as the threshing floor of Chidon -- thus the place was called -- Uzzah dies because of the wrath of God: for when the oxen had tilted the ark of the covenant, Uzzah stretched out his hand and wanted to take hold of it, and because he was not a priest and he touched it, it came about that he died. Both the people and the king were vexed at the death of Uzzah.
