*)oxqei=: stena/zei.
The headword is the third person singular, present indicative active, of the verb
o)xqe/w (
I am sorely angry, vexed in spirit); see generally LSJ s.v. This first principal part of the verb is unattested, and none of the attestations of the headword itself are found outside lexicography by the time of the Suda's compilation. Perhaps the entry has been generated by instances of the unaugmented aorist indicative active, third person plural,
o)/xqhsan, which occurs at
Homer,
Iliad 1.570 (web address 1) and 15.101 (web address 2); alternatively the headword is authentically quoted from somewhere. For the compound
prosoxqei=, see under
pi 2777.
[1] The gloss is the same grammatical form as the headword, but from the verb
stena/zw,
I sigh often, deeply; see generally LSJ s.v. The headword is identically glossed in
Photius'
Lexicon (omicron740 Theodoridis) and similarly glossed in
Hesychius omicron2027; cf. the
Synagoge s.v.
o)xqh/sas, and
omicron 1048. Adler also cites the
Ambrosian Lexicon (705). For this gloss see also under
omicroniota 98.
