An abridged version of
Stephanus of
Byzantium s.v. Napatai. "Libya" is used here in its ancient sense (i.e. that part of
Africa lying between the Nile and the Atlantic). In modern terms Napata (the version of the name found in
Strabo 17.1.54 and
Ptolemy 8.16.8, 4.7.19) was in the
Sudan: Barrington Atlas map 82 grid B3.
This entry and the two that follow it,
nu 31 and
nu 32 (both of these also derived from
Stephanus), are not present in mss AFV but are written as marginalia in ms M.
