An epic form of the verb mhtia/w ('deliberate', 'plan'); cf. mu 999, and more generally mu 997. Quoted probably, as Adler asserts, from Homer, Iliad 7.45 (web address 1), where it is present active participle masculine dative plural. Alternatively, it could be (an otherwise unattested) neuter dative plural, or the third person plural, present active indicative, of this verb, as at Iliad 10.208 and 10.409.
