[Meaning] the mouth of the Nile.
*mendh/sion ke/ras: to\ tou= *nei/lou sto/ma.
This phrase, for one of the eastern mouths of the River Nile, appears in
Thucydides 1.110.4 (web address 1). Adler derives the entry from the
scholia thereto, though the
scholia read
sto/mion in place of
sto/ma.
Herodotus 2.17.5 (web address 2) uses the phrase "Mendesian mouth". For the noun
ke/ras in this sense (cf. e.g. the Golden Horn at
Byzantium/Constantinople) see LSJ s.v., V.2 (web address 3).
