Notes:
[1] Stephanus of Byzantium and Aelius Herodian mention 3 cities called Melissa: one in Libya, 'one in Asia' (which both claim is mentioned by Hecataeus) and a small village in the territory of Kyzikos, northern Turkey. None of these is firmly located, although the Barrington Atlas thinks the Asian one is in Phrygia (central Turkey), somewhere near the present-day town of Oynes.
