Notes:
The elder
Melanippides (OCD(4) 926 '
Melanippides 1') won a victory at the Athenian Dionysia in 494/3, according to the Marmor Parium (Ep. 47, p.15 Jacoby). He was born, according to the Suda, between 520 and 517, and cannot then be identical with
mu 454, as some scholars once argued.
We cannot be certain whether he was also responsible for innovations in music or if certain fragments should be attributed to him.
