[1] The allusion is to Homer, Iliad 24.221, where i(erh=es occurs in the cited epic plural: "whether of seers that divine from sacrifice (ma/nties quosko/oi) or of priests (i(erh=es)". The lexicographer is attempting to set up an opposition between the two terms; cf. theta 591 (and mu 168 already for mantis).
