Though cities of this name are known in Akarnania (NW Greece), Aiolis, and elsewhere, the best-known one -- which has probably generated the present entry -- was the one founded by Lysimachos (see OCD(4) s.v., and under alpha 1862, etc.) as capital for his Thrakian realm. This was on the site of Polis Agora (present-day Bolayir) in the Thrakian Chersonese, at the neck of land there; Barrington Atlas map 51 grid H3.
Lysimachos joined Kardia (kappa 364) and Paktye (see under pi 33) into his new settlement, the former controlling the head of the Gulf of Saros, the latter controlling the entrance to the Hellespont.
