Headword: *katasofiso/meqa
Adler number: kappa,775
Translated headword: we will outwit
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Used] with an accusative. [Meaning] we will contrive, we will do harm by some device.[1]
But [the verb] katasofisteu/w[2] [is construed] with a genitive.
Greek Original:
*katasofiso/meqa: ai)tiatikh=|. texnaso/meqa, mhxanh=| tini kakw/somen. *katasofisteu/w de\ genikh=|.
Notes:
[1] Same or similar glossing (minus the grammatical point) in other lexica. The headword is first person plural, future, of the verb katasofi/zomai (cf. kappa 774). It must be quoted from somewhere: not independently attested in this form, but perhaps a mistake for the subjunctive katasofisw/meqa in Exodus 1.10 LXX. (See on this Photius kappa363 Theodoridis, citing Dindorf.)
[2] For this very rare verb, see Gregory of Nazianzus, Letters 190 and Severianus, De caeco nato 59.546; also Lexicon Syntacticum (Ai( suntiqe/menai diplai= sunta/ceis) 51.
