Translation: It was a custom in
Athens to purify the [sc. place of] assembly and the theaters and, in sum, the meeting-places of the people with very tiny piglets, which they called purificatories. This is what the so-called peristiarchs used to do; they had been given that name either from walling round[1] or from [the] hearth.[2]
