*ka=lon: to\ cu/lon. to\n *ka/lw de\ *)attikw=s.
For the headword see also
kappa 186,
kappa 201,
kappa 211.
[1] Likewise, according to Adler, in the
Ambrosian Lexicon (352).
[2] This statement appears not to pertain to the headword but to the word
ka/lws ('rope', 'reef'), and may have been copied from or intended for another entry (cf.
kappa 255,
kappa 259) Gaisford suggested emending the incongruous
to\n ka/lw of the manuscripts to
to\n ka/lwn producing a normal accusative for
ka/lws, but a more likely emendation is to
tou= ka/lw, producing the Attic genitive of
ka/lws, an idiosyncratic form frequently commented on by the grammarians (e.g. [Herodian] 3.2.713; cf. again
kappa 255). The translation here reflects this possibility. The ultimate source may be commentary on
Aristophanes; see
kappa 259 for more details.
