Also [sc. attested is] krhfagi/a.
*krhti=nos. kai\ *krhfagi/a.
Beyond alphabetical proximity there seems to be no connection between the two parts of this entry.
For
krhfagi/a, the eating of flesh, cf.
kappa 2375.
The primary headword presents more of a puzzle. Though unglossed, it looks like a man's name, but is otherwise unattested in this nominative case. What
is attested (in
Stephanus of
Byzantium and Herodian, citing Phlegon of
Tralles [FGrH 257 F30]), is the genitive Kretinou, as that of one of the successive founders of
Sinope (
sigma 464). Its nominative, guaranteed by ps.-
Scymnus and the
Periplus Ponti Euxini, is Kretines, however. The Suda's 'Kretinos', accordingly, is either a false nominative generated by that genitive or else another individual, otherwise unmentioned and unknown.
