Photius kappa1032 Theodoridis. Herodian,
De Prosodia Catholica p. 63 Lentz, cites the story that Phoenix [
Author,
Myth] tells Achilles in
Homer,
Iliad 9.529: "the Curetes and the Aetolians staunch in battle were fighting at the city of Kalydon". The reference here would thus seem to be to an Aetolian or Acarnanian tribe, not to the Cretan divinities who nursed Zeus (cf.
kappa 2183); note, however, that
Hesychius kappa3845 (
*Kourh=tes), kappa3846 (
*Kourh/tesi) and kappa3847 (
*Kourh/twn) does consistently refer the term to Crete.
