'The Moirai appear on the Francois vase (6th cent. BC) and on the still earlier Cypselus chest. However, their genealogy as daughters of Zeus and Themis and personification in the trinity of Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos were the fruit of Hesiodic theology' (B.C. Dietrich in OCD(4) s.v. 'fate').
[1] Differently glossed in ps.-Herodian and, according to Adler, the Ambrosian Lexicon.
