From a place [sc. of that name].
*keninh/ths: a)po\ to/pou.
This ethnic is attested only here.
Perhaps [NF] an error for Kenite. The Kenites or Kinaioi (= smiths) are usually presumed to be the same as the Midianites (see web address 1), e.g. at
Judges 1:16.
Alternatively [DW] a variant of Kananites. See
Strabo 14.5.14:
Athenodorus son of Sandon is 'also called Kananites, after some village [sc. near Tarsus]'.
Or [CR] a variant of Kaininetes, as in
Plutarch,
Romulus 16.2 and 16.7.
