Claudius Ptolemy gives a 'Gurtone' in Tymphaia and Polybius 5.108 mentions a 'Gertous' of the Dassaretes, possibly identical with a 'Gerrunium' mentioned by Livy 31.27. Any of these cities may have been on islands in the several large lakes of northern Greece.
