Notes:
The headword (which must be quoted from somewhere) is accusative plural of this feminine noun. For its cluster of meanings see LSJ s.v.
[1] Same or similar glossing in other lexica, and cf. also the
scholia to
Homer,
Iliad 24.274, where the singular of the headword occurs.
[2]
Agathias,
Histories 5.22. For 'skiffs' see
epsilon 1937. In 559 CE, the Romans under the Byzantine commander Germanus (cf.
alpha 4595 end) prepare to intercept a force of Kotrigur Huns attacking the Thracian Chersonese (the modern-day Gallipoli Peninsula, cf.
chi 215) by way of reed boats; cf. Frendo (158). For additional context, see
alpha 1017 and
kappa 2274.
[3] A garbling of
Greek Anthology 6.334.3-4 (
Leonidas of
Tarentum), a dedication of cakes and wines to rustic gods, which has
tetraglwxi/n ["four-angled", i.e. square] for the lexicon's
petra\ glwxi=nes; cf. Gow and Page (vol. I, 108), (vol. II, 311-313), and another extract from this epigram at
pi 16. Also (but slightly differently) faulty at
mu 313, q.v. To this point, Gow and Page (vol. I, 108) follow the
Anthologia Planudea in reading
tetraglwxi/n, whereas the Suda adapts its rendering from similar alternatives among
Anthologia Palatina texts.
