Proper name.
*giw/ras: o)/noma ku/rion.
Likewise, according to Adler, in the
Ambrosian Lexicon (246). The headword occurs in
Isaiah 14.1
LXX, where in fact it seems to be used in lower case, and has been construed to mean a stranger (cf.
gamma 218,
gamma 219). However, it is apparently a proper name --
Simon, son of Gioras -- in
Josephus'
Jewish War; and Theodoret in his
Commentary on Isaiah claims it to be Greek for Jacob.
