[2] Attributed by Gaisford to Menander Protector, and accepted as such by Blockley: his fr. 37 (246-247). The fragment is unplaced and without context that would clearly identify the king or emperor. As a possibility, Blockley suggests (287, note 331) the ruler here could be Roman Emperor Tiberius (ruled 578-582; cf. PLRE IIIb s.v. Tiberius(1)), contemplating negotiations with Persian King Chosroes (cf. chi 418) in 579 after Roman military successes in 578; cf. Greatrex and Lieu (160-162).
