Greek Original:*)ekklei/ousi: kwlu/ousin, ei)/rgousin. *polu/bios: e)pei\ to\n *fi/lippon e)kklei/ousin oi( kairoi/, bou/lesqai to\n basile/a th\n e)pigrafh\n th=s pra/cews e)kei/nw| peripoih=sai, w(s e)n eu)ergesi/a| profe/rwn tou/tw| tou\s lo/gous.
Notes:
Same entry (but with the quotation foreshortened) in ps.-
Zonaras.
[1] The headword is present indicative active, third person plural, of the verb
e)kklei/w (cf.
epsilon 461); presumably extracted from the quotation given.
[2]
Polybius fr. 36 Büttner-Wobst; cf. ps.-
Zonaras 667.15 (partial quotation, which stops at
oi( kairoi/). Büttner-Wobst records (p. 518) three scholarly attempts at emending the final participial phrase in the entry (
profe/rwn tou/tw| tou\s lo/gous,
addressing to him the words). Bernhardy proposed
profe/ronti tou/tous tou\s lo/gous, the associated dative participle (
in addressing them the words). Hultsch thought that the Suda's verb was inappropriate, suggesting instead
prosfe/rwn tou/tw| tou\s lo/gous, the present active participle, masculine nominative/vocative singular of the verb
prosfe/rw,
I bring upon, apply to; thus,
applying to him the words. Finally, Büttner-Wobst himself weighed in with
prosfe/ronta tou/tw| tou\s lo/gous, the present active participle, masculine accusative singular; thus,
by applying to him the words.
