Notes:
[1] On Dionysus see generally
delta 1185. The rare epithet appears to be Orphic (see
Orphica 30, 31), and is used of Dionysus also by Marcus Argentarius (
Greek Anthology 9.246). It appears to be identical with the equally rare epithet
eu)asth/s used of Dionysus on an inscription from Pergamum and of his worshippers.
[2] For euoi! cf.
epsilon 3785,
epsilon 3787,
epsilon 3788.
[3]
Greek Anthology 6.154.1-2 (
Leonidas of
Tarentum), a rustic dedication to Pan, Dionysus, and Nymphs by one Biton; cf. Gow and Page (vol. I, 137-138), Gow and Page (vol. II, 393-394), and further excerpts from this epigram at
kappa 1682 and
sigma 1391. For Lyaeus see
lambda 788. Gow and Page note (vol. I, 137) that the
Anthologia Palatina also ascribes the epigram to
Gaetulicus, an imitator of the Tarentine. But they reject this attribution as lacking any credence, arguing that the context of the work is firmly Meleagrian, has a Leonidean style, and that
Gaetulicus was working much later, in the 1st century CE.
