Adler number: epsilon,3371
Translated headword: flowery tongue
Vetting Status: high
Translation: "Conversation highly Atticized and full of many charms and scented with musical harmonies."
Greek Original:*eu)anqh\s glw=ssa. h( a)/krws h)ttikisme/nh o(mili/a kai\ pollw=n ge/mousa xari/twn kai\ mousikw=n a)phxhma/twn a)po/zousa.
Note:
The headword phrase occurs in a literal sense -- "(sc. abnormally) bright tongue" -- in the Hippocratic
Epidemiae 2.3.11. Nevertheless the present phrase, also in
Photius (unglossed), is apparently figurative, at any rate to judge by the phrase (seemingly itself a quotation) used to gloss it here. Bernhardy attributed the gloss to
Synesius or
Damascius; Adler suggests a scholion on Gregory of Nazianzus.
