Translated headword: I was emasculated, I was enervated, I was weakened
Vetting Status: high
Translation: [Meaning] I was bewitched.
"Like iron in a tempering-bath, I was emasculated in the mouth." In tempering, the iron is not softened,[1] but is made hard; so a distinction must be made as follows. For I myself, [Ajax] is saying, who threatened and seethed and made noises like iron in a tempering-bath, am now emasculated by the words of my wife; or because the iron is bathed two ways; for if they want it to be soft, they bathe it in oil, but if hard, in water.[2]
