[2] The first of these two-word phrases happens to occur in a work attributed to John Chrysostom, but the other two are otherwise unattested, and it hardly seems likely that they are quotations; rather, they are (somewhat superfluous) paradigmatic illustrations of the grammatical point already made. (Why the imperative
fa/ge sits alongside two first-person singular indicatives can only be conjectured.) There can also be no suggestion that each of the three verbs is somehow appropriate to the food item here linked with it; for instance, Herakles 'eats' (rather than consumes) an ox in
beta 417.
