If the headword -- which must be quoted from somewhere but is not independently attested -- were a contracted aorist, third person singular, of prowqe/w "I push forward" (LSJ at web address 1), the gloss would be a mismatch. However, Theodoridis on Photius s.v. quotes with approval Latte's comment at Hesychius s.v.: 'fabricated out of pe/prwtai by a late poet or grammarian'.
