[1] The headword is common in Polybius (cf. n.2), but neither there nor in other writers does it bear the attested sense of this glossing word. Perhaps its presence here is due to a misunderstanding of a discussion on the formation of nouns ending in -troph/ (cf. chi 461), or from a misreading of the sort of thing we find in Etymologicum Magnum 367.14: e)pitroph/: oi( me\n para\ to\ e)pitropeu/ein.
[2] Polybius fr. 151 Büttner-Wobst. Büttner-Wobst notes (533-534) that Ursinus (Fulvio Orsini, 1529-1600) attributed this fragment to Polybius. Schweighäuser was doubtful about the attribution, but Büttner-Wobst accepts the fragment as genuinely Polybian (ibid.). Without a context it is unclear which 'Lucius' this is; and the 'Lapatenes' are otherwise unattested, but possibly connected with the headland called Lapatia Korou in NW Spain (Ptolemy 2.6.4, Barrington Atlas map 24 grid D1) or with a people named in a catalogue of Asian folk in the Alexander Romance (recension a) 1.2.2 (Kroll obelizes this word as corrupt, however). Walbank notes (752-753) that Schweighäuser tentatively suggested that the Lapateni might be the Ligurian Lapacini (Livy 41.19, web address 1).
