It is translated here as if it were a lapse for e)pe/spairen (imperfect indicative active, third person singular, of e)pispai/rw), which is itself attested only at Plutarch, Alexander the Great: Luck or Virtue? 327C (at the time of A's departure for the East Hellas 'was still panting' over the wars with Philip).
