The transmitted headword e)pe/sbh is not attested (in pre-Byzantine writers) outside lexicography, although Thucydides twice employs a different form of the same compound, e)pesbai/nontes (2.90.6, 4.14.2); and cf. e)pese/bainon in Cassius Dio 48.37.3. Theodoridis on Photius s.v. obelizes it and supports one of the Synagoge's readings, e)pe/bh, which he suggests might be quoted from Demosthenes (1.12 or 19.311).
