Menander Protector fr. 36 Blockley (246-247), probably via a lost part of the
Excerpta of Constantine Porphyrogenitus. The fragment is unplaced and lacks context that would help identify the barbarian leader. The location might suggest either Rome or
Byzantion, inasmuch as both cities were built upon seven hills; Blockley (287, note 330), however, thinks that neither possibility is likely, given that the fragment seems to indicate that the hills comprise a fairly small area.
