Plotinus says that "virtue in the soul is acquired; but in That, from which [the soul] has it by imitation, [it is] inherent. [...] But if that [virtue] in which the soul participates were the same as that [source] from which [virtue comes], [one could speak thus]; but as it is, that [sc. the source of virtue] is one thing, and this [sc. virtue] is another."[2]
