Notes:
[1] Similarly already in Hescyhius.
[2]
Aristophanes,
Knights 103 (again at
epsilon 2507), with scholion. "He's been licking the sauce off the confiscated goodies" (Loeb 1998, translation J. Henderson) or "après avoir sucé les biscuits au sel confisqués," [to increase his thirst] (Paris 1972, translation H. van Daele). There is a problem with salt vs honey: the pre-Henderson Loeb translation considers the cookies to be honey-cookies: " having licked the cakes made of confiscation sales, sprinkled with honey". For Kleon see
kappa 1731.
