LSJ considers this term a false reading for
dasplh=tis, "horrid, frightful": see web address 1. It occurs in
Lycophron,
Alexandra 1452, where the writer describes
na/pas (valleys) which he qualifies as
dusplh/tidas.
Tzetzes, in the scholion, explains that valleys
dusplh/tides are "difficult to reach" (
ai( dusko/lws plhttome/nai), while those
dasplh/tidas are "terrifying" (
kataplh/ktai).
