An island [of that name].
*douli/xios: nh=sos.
One of the Echinades group, off Acarnania (NW Greece). The masculine form of the name given here is a mistake; it was Doulichion (
Homer,
Strabo,
Pausanias,
Stephanus of
Byzantium), when not Dolicha/Doliche.
NF adds: Doulichion in
Homer seems to be a substantial island and (controversially; cf.
Strabo 10.2.10, 14, 19) may refer to
Akarnania, which may have been cut off (or virtually cut off) from the mainland in earlier times.
